The Shaeffer Family

A look into all that god is doing in the Shaeffer family.

Happenings… April 26, 2008

Filed under: Kim — shaefferfamily @ 2:29 am

I had the weirdest thing happen this week. I have started to get a bit more energy now that I beginning my second trimester. So, on Thursday night Michael and I were goofing off and I had a sudden burst of energy. we started joking around and I started laughing hysterically. My eyes started watering from laughing and the next thing I knew I was sobbing. I still felt happy I just started crying uncontrollably! (I felt like Krystal in Hot Springs – inside joke!) I have never done anything like this and I have decided that pregnancy hormones are overwhelming.

In other news…I only have 5 weeks of school left and then I will no longer be gainfully employed. I was telling Michael the other day how excited I was that I wasn’t going to be working anymore. He sweetly reminded me that I am going to be working, my job is just different and I won’t be getting paid. :)

Like I said in my previous post, please continue to pray for us as we wait for the Lord to lead us to the church in which we will serve.

11 weeks!!! April 19, 2008

As of today I am 11 weeks pregnant! YAY!! Just one more week to go and I will have finished my first trimester. That has been my only focus since I found out that I was pregnant. I have just been so anxious to reach 12 weeks. I’m very excited that it’s almost here. I’m also starting to feel more pregnant so that is exciting. I keep telling Michael that I’m anxious to get my big belly. He has pointed out that I probably won’t be so eager once it’s here and I’m uncomfortable. I know he’s right but I just can’t wait to look pregnant!

Please be praying as we look towards our future. Michael graduates in less than 1 month now. We are SO EXCITED! We have some big changes coming up.

Spring Break is Almost Over :( April 10, 2008

Every time I have a break from school I get really depressed toward the end of it because life is about to go back to normal. Overall, we have had a great spring break. We had a great time in Memphis visiting with family and friends. My mom is doing much better. She only stayed in the hospital long enough to get medicine in her and stop the dizzy spell. She goes to the ear doctor this week to see what is wrong. We’re really excited about Thunder on Saturday. I can’t wait to see Ashley and Ricky.

So this post was really short and random. I’m super tired right now (which seems to be something that is pretty constant) and can’t form complete thoughts! Until next time…

Spring Break! April 5, 2008

Filed under: Kim — shaefferfamily @ 5:41 pm

I am officially on Spring Break.  I’m so excited.  I am in serious need of a break from my students and some rest.  I am cleaning tonight and tomorrow, and then we are headed to Memphis on Sunday.  I’m excited about being in Memphis.  We are going out to lunch with Phil and Jeanne Newberry on Monday to pick their brains about student ministry.  I’m really excited.  I have been writing down questions for Jeanne over the past few weeks.  She’s going to feel like she’s being interviewed.  We are just desperate for some good advice from people who have been successfully working in student ministry for so long.  On Tuesday I am going to get my hair done.  I’m really excited about this.  The other day one of my students commented on my “pretty brown hair.”  I about died!  Also, ever since I have been pregnant it has been growing really fast and it just looks blah!  I’m counting on Fred to work a miracle.  On Wednesday my mom (if she’s able I’ll post about this in a minute) is taking me shopping and she is buying me my maternity clothes.  I don’t need them yet but I know it won’t be long and she wanted to spoil me so I guess I will let her :) .  We’re leaving to come home on Thursday.  Christi and her boyfriend, Atilla, are coming in the next day because  they are coming to Thunder Over Louisville with us.  So we have a big spring break week planned but we’re really excited.  We would love to get together with friends at some time if possible.  I’ll try and call when we get in town to see when is a good time.

My Mom April 5, 2008

Filed under: Kim — shaefferfamily @ 12:38 am

I called my mom this afternoon at work just to see what she was doing and talk about us coming in town. To my surprise my dad answered instead. When I asked him why he was answering he casually said, “because your mom is laid out in the floor.” I thought he was joking so I continued with some joke about him being the one who put her there. He then told me that he was actually serious. He said that she was having a bad time with her inner ear and vertigo and couldn’t get off the floor. Now for some background, this is common or my mom. She has bad inner ear and when she has a “spell” she’s down for a few days. They have also hit her at work before and my dad always has to go pick her up and bring her up. Well this time when he got there and tried to get her up she would either start to pass out or throw up. So he was letting her just lay there and hope it passed until he could get her home. Well when I talked to him she had been on the floor for 2 hours! I think he was obviously starting to get worried but I think he thought he was overreacting. So when he told me this I quickly told him that he was crazy and needed to call an ambulance to come get her because something was not right. I think he had been feeling this way but once he heard someone else say it he realized that’s what he had to do. So he called an ambulance and they took her to the hospital about 1 and a half hours ago. I haven’t heard any updates yet.

It’s times like these that I absolutely hate not being close to family. I’m sure she’ll be fine and there’s nothing I could do if I was there but I would just like the option of going to the hospital to see her. So please pray that everything is okay and that the doctor’s will figure everything out. I haven’t seen my parents since Christmas and they are so excited about us coming in town and I want her to be able to enjoy it.

Here I go! April 1, 2008

Filed under: Kim — shaefferfamily @ 9:56 pm

Well here I go. I have been thinking about starting a blog lately because Michael and I have SO MUCH going on in our life right now that it’s pretty overwhelming. I’ve thought several times that writing about everything would be a great way to keep up with all the big events happening at one time and not losing the memories. Well, today when I saw Ashley’s new blog (way to go Ash!) my desire to just “get it done” was solidified! So….here are all of the things going on right now. Michael graduates from Southern Seminary in 45 days!!! :) We are so excited. I am so extremely proud of Michael and all of the hard work and dedication he has put into school. He is such a talented speaker/leader and I am so excited to see where the Lord leads him. Which leads to our next big thing. We are currently waiting on a full time job for Michael. His resume is out there and he has several people passing around but at this point it’s just a waiting game. It’s pretty cool because we know that God has the perfect church out there for us and we just get to sit back and watch it all unfold. So while we were wrapping our brains around graduation, and about the fact that we will probably be moving whenever Michael gets a job, we got the most amazing news of our lives…WE ARE HAVING A BABY!I’m pretty sure that everyone who would take the time to read this would already know, but having children is something that Michael and I have been pretty desperate about for several years. We were struggling and praying through the chance that having children may never be possible for us. I had finally accepted that the only way that we were going to have the big family we’ve dreamed of was ONLY adoption (we still plan to adopt down the road). I am so thankful that the Lord has blessed us with this pregnancy. Our baby is due November 8th!!!! I am looking forward to becoming a stay at home mom and taking care of my family. So anyway, that’s it. The first entry is over. That’s an overview of all of the big things happening in our lives this year. I am so thankful for the Lord’s faithfulness and blessings!
